Biomedical Waste

Biomedical waste management requirements are found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 29 Part 1910.1030 and in Florida Administrative Code (FAC) Chapter 64E-16.

The NASA Environmental Assurance Branch (EAB) monitors KSC medical and laboratory operations that generate biomedical waste streams to assure compliance with the regulations.

Organizations and contractors shall maintain all records (such as autoclave logbooks, contingency plans, waste shipping manifests, training records, operation plans, and biomedical waste bag reports) required by FAC 64E-16.

The KSC requirements for biomedical waste management are found in Chapter 15 of KNPR 8500.1 (KSC Environmental Requirements).
