The Permitting and Compliance Group

Providing Guidance to Kennedy Space Center’s Organizations

The Permitting and Compliance Group provides guidance to Kennedy Space center’s organizations and ensures that operations are in compliance with federal and state of Florida environmental regulations in the areas of:

  • Hazardous and Regulated Waste
  • Stormwater Management
  • Drinking Water and Consumptive Use
  • Industrial Wastewater
  • Domestic Wastewater and Septic Systems
  • Construction Dewatering
  • Petroleum Storage Tank Systems
  • Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures
  • Air Emissions
  • Landfill Management
  • Pesticide Management

The Permitting and Compliance group roles and responsibilities include:

  • Conducting technical reviews of projects and providing guidance to Kennedy organizations and contractors on environmental permitting and compliance requirements
  • Developing, communicating and implementing Kennedy-specific environmental requirements to ensure consistency across all organizations and contractors
  • Processing environmental permit applications and renewals for Kennedy operations
  • Interfacing with federal and state of Florida environmental regulatory agencies regarding Kennedy operations and permitting actions
  • Performing audits to ensure that government and contractor activities are in compliance with environmental regulations, permits and Kennedy-specific environmental requirements
  • Reviewing proposed regulation changes, identifying impacts/risks to Kennedy management and implementing regulation changes

In addition to the above duties, the Permitting and Compliance Team oversees the Environmental Points of Contact (EPOCs)
An EPOC is a contractor support person assigned to support a specific Kennedy institutional construction project. They also support programmatic projects. The EPOC is responsible for providing guidance on all environmental issues from project design kickoff through completion of construction. This support includes reviewing design packages, assistance with any required permits, and providing support to the construction contractor to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental rules and regulations.
