Rechargers
A recharger is a vehicle which converts a cryogenic liquid, such as air, nitrogen or oxygen, into a high-pressure gas. These vehicles have their own origins in the oil-field industry. At KSC/CCAFS, rechargers are used primarily on “Milkruns” to pump up CGTs and MSUs at various facilities. There are two basic designs: the CS&P recharger and the Paul recharger.
The two CS&P rechargers are used exclusively in Nitrogen service. They have a 2000-gallon liquid Nitrogen storage tank and can deliver up to 12000 SCFM GN2 at 6000 psig.
There are four Paul rechargers which are used primarily in Nitrogen, oxygen, and breathing air service. Each unit has a 3000 gallon storage taken and can delivery up to 1250 SCFM of gas at 10,000 psig.
