Master Plan - Hero Background Rocket Launch

Central Plant Layout

Currently there a number of central utility plants throughout the center that provide chilled and high temperature hot water to various buildings. The equipment found in the central utility plants varies in age, but much of it is 20 years old or older and in need of significant repair or replacement in the near future. When upgrading the central utility plants, consideration should be given to the installation of combined heat and power plants, thermal storage, absorption chillers, ground source heat pumps (GSHP), and solar hot water. Large central utility plants offer increased efficiency and reliability; however, they may not have the flexibility that is required in the near term as KSC’s NASA operations continue to increase operational efficiency through right-sizing efforts and KSC continues its transition to a multi-user model with a greater diversity of utility requirements across the user-base spectrum.Â
