Future Seaport
Land Use Description – The Seaport land use classification includes: port, harbor, wharves, docks and associated land areas to accommodate authorized delivery or embarkation of materials, equipment or people via access to the mainland through means of sea going vessels. Land areas contiguous to wharves and docks that are used for the staging, off-loading, transfer and storage/processing of materials, equipment or people are also classified as Seaport land use.
Future Development – Upgrades will continue to be invested in the VAB turn basin seaport to support future water-based transportation capabilities. As part of the EIS process, the areas to the west of the SLF and southeast of the Industrial Area formerly identified as seaport locations were reclassified as ‘operational buffer/conservation’ due to environmental impacts associated with the construction of two new seaports exceeding commercial market demand.
