Live Events and Activities

MONDAY, MAY 6

• Fall Prevention Kahoot! – Open from May 6 – May 10 – (Virtual)
  • Play with your team or alone. This Kahoot! will teach you all about Fall Safety and Prevention in tandem with KSC Safety and Health Days 2024 and OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls.

TUESDAY, MAY 7

• Dropped Object Demonstration – 9:00am – 10:00am (NW VAB Parking Lot)*
  • Join Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) for a live demonstration highlighting the dangers of dropped objects and the importance of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness. 
• Bye-Bye Burnout Presentation by Dr. Seth Hickerson – 1:00pm – 2:00pm (Virtual)
  • Join Dr. Seth Hickerson, CEO & Founder of My Steady Mind for an interactive and informative presentation to learn the tools and techniques to establish strategies that are easily implemented to help reduce your stress, improve focus and increase energy.
• Stop the Bleed Training Certification – 1:00pm – 2:30pm (Training Auditorium, Room 111)*
  • A bleeding injury can happen anywhere and at any time during a serious accident, or a natural or human-caused disaster.  About 40% of trauma-related deaths worldwide occur because of bleeding; it takes only three to five minutes to bleed out from a serious wound, and the average time for first responders to arrive is seven to ten minutes.  
  • Instead of being a witness, by learning how to STOP THE BLEED®, you will gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control the situation.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8

• KSC safeTALK Suicide Alertness Training – 9:00am – 12:00pm (OSBII)*
  • safeTALK is a straightforward and highly effective suicide alertness training. It provides the necessary tools and interactive experience to better recognize, engage with and connect to intervention resources, any person with thoughts of suicide. Given that suicide is a critical public health problem in the United States, it’s essential that more people become trained in this “mental health first aid”.
• Rena Harrington, President, United Support and Memorial for Workplace Fatalities (USMWF) – 10:00am – 11:00 am (Mission Briefing Room* or virtual)
  • Come meet Rena and hear her story on the impact that a loss has on those that are left behind.
• OSHA Recordkeeping Session Lunch & Learn – 12:00pm – 12:45pm (Mission Briefing Room* or virtual)
  • Is that case an OSHA Recordable? When do we call OSHA for an employee injury?  The OSHA Orlando CAS will provide a presentation on the requirements of OSHA’s Recordkeeping Standard and answer audience questions. The KSC Mishap Manager will be available during this presentation to answer questions on KSC Mishaps and Close Calls. 
• Lessons Learned with Mike Cianilli – 12:05pm – 12:45pm (Virtual)
  • Michael “Mike” Ciannilli leads NASA’s Apollo, Challenger, Columbia Lessons Learned Program (ACCLLP) directing and developing a wide array of activities to innovatively and effectively share the Agency’s lessons learned to help powerfully influence NASA’s mission success across all programs and missions. 
• OSHA Update with Amy Wilson – 1:00pm – 2:00pm (Mission Briefing Room* or virtual)
  • OSHA Orlando CAS will give a presentation on OSHA’s current enforcement/outreach initiatives, status of proposed rulemaking, and compliance resources for employers, with an emphasis on small, disadvantaged businesses. 

THURSDAY, MAY 9

• KSC Safety Stand Down: 9:00am – 11:00am (HYBRID) 
  • Center Director Janet Petro and other center executives will host an employee town hall. The meeting, held in conjunction with KSC’s annual Safety and Health Days, will feature a special Organizational Silence presentation by Robert Conway of the NASA Safety Center.
• Safety & Health Showcase: 11:00am – 1:00pm (OSBII)*
  • This interactive event brings the KSC workforce together with organizations like OSHA and the NASA Safety Center to showcase the latest information on employee safety and health. This event offers a fun and informative way to prioritize safety and well-being. Don’t miss out on engaging activities, informative sessions, and the chance to connect with safety and health professionals from KSC and beyond. Let’s take time to build a safer and healthier work environment, together!
